STARD’s electric rallycross car and driver Manfred Stohl set the pace in the Austrian Rallycross Championship’s double-header weekend at Greinbach (July 18 – 19) to take a pair of wins, adding to the historic victory the dynamic duo claimed a week earlier in Hungary, further validating the electric concept that will run in the new Projekt E series this year.
Using the Austrian event at the PS Racing Centre as another extended test session ahead of the FIA World RallycrossChampionship’s official electric support class, Projekt E, starting next month in Sweden, STARD’s Ford Fiesta ERX, fitted with the ground-breaking STARD REVelutionpowertrain system once again achieved 100% reliability during no less than eight race starts and 72 laps of running.
The Fiesta ERX was the fastest car of every class in the Austrian event for almost the entire weekend, only when tyre selection became a factor did Stohl not sit top of the laps times as other competitors ran on new rubber while STARD worked on running the electric car with heavily-worn tyres to simulate race scenarios that teams will face when competing in Projekt E later this year.
With three victories in eight days for the REVelution powertrain kit, that produces 450kW (613bhp) combined power, 1002Nm of instantaneous torque with a top speed of 240km/h from three road car electric motors, using a four-wheel drive system and two-speed transmission, the focus now switches back to private testing and preparation for the first event of Projekt E at the legendary Holjes in Sweden, in August.
Manfred Stohl, Stohl Group President and Development Driver:
“The weekend was just perfect with two full days of racing. The car ran with zero issues, and the speed is very satisfying. The car behaves just as you expect a race car to behave, but with a new level of driveability and the sophistication of the EV powertrain. I know it’s expected for me to say the car is fantastic, but honestly, I’m so impressed by this electric powertrain, more than I ever thought I could be. I’m more than confident to hand this over now for other drivers to compete with, to professionals and amateurs alike. This is as ready as a customer motorsport product car can be.“
Michael Sakowicz, STARD CEO and founder:
“It’s great that again we were able to show how real our powertrain and Projekt E is, especially during these times when there is really a big number of electric racing projects which keep being postponed with amended technical concepts, we’ve just delivered what we announced a year ago. It’s here, ready and available.
For the race itself, two national rounds in two days is like doing one and a half normal World RX weekends, and everything worked perfectly. We’re very happy that our concept validation continued like this.”
